Our family business has come a long way this year. There has been lots of twists and turns since the 9 January when Lachlan sent off his Horticulture Innovation Australia scholarship application for a spot in the Masterclass of Horticultural Business Course.
It’s certainly been an amazing rollercoaster ride since being notified of his success in early February.
This has been a remarkable opportunity. This course is the first of its kind in Australia. It combines the expertise of three universities: The Wageningen Research Academy in the Netherlands, which is currently ranked the number one university in agriculture and forestry in the world, Lincoln University, New Zealand’s specialist land-based university, together with the University of Tasmania, Australia’s leading horticulture university.
To his credit, Lachlan has grabbed it with both hands. The lessons could never have been timelier, as we continue to face adversity with drought and water restrictions. It has put him out of his comfort zone, more than you will ever know, but to his credit he has not given up.
Lachlan has visited some of Australia’s best horticulture farms and met many inspiring people from across this vast country of ours. After countless hours of study, in a few short weeks he will stand on the precipice of his last face to face session and assessment!
We, our three boys and I, are so immensely proud of his hard work and dedication to our family, his positive attitude to life-long learning and his steadfast commitment to what he believes in his heart to be true.
Can’t wait to share a pic of the uni graduate with you soon!
Until then, take care
